Kylie Ann Minogue, the eldest daughter of Irish accountant Ronald and Welsh dancer Carol, was born on May 28, 1968, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She began her career as an actress on Australian television, playing Charlene Mitchell in the soap opera "Neighbours". Minogue's musical career officially started in 1987. Her first single, a cover version of "The Loco-Motion" in 1987, topped the Australian singles chart for seven weeks and became the best-selling single of the decade in Australia. This success led Kylie to a contract with the British production and songwriting trio "Stock, Aitken & Waterman".
